Gophers basketball, hockey arenas to get new scoreboards, sound systems
The University of Minnesota announced Thursday, May 24, plans to upgrade scoreboards and sound systems at Williams Arena and Mariucci Arena this fall.
The university will have new center-hung LED scoreboards, LED fascia boards and sound systems installed at both facilities in time for the 2012-13 seasons.
“It was time to make the upgrades at Mariucci and Williams arenas,” Gophers associate athletic director for facilities Scott Ellison said. “Golden Gopher fans are not only passionate about the athletic programs but also the facilities. We understand the importance of game presentation as it pertains to each fan’s experience, and with the addition of state-of-the-art scoreboards, ribbon boards and sound systems at both facilities our staff will be able to further enhance that experience.”
The new scoreboards will look a lot like the current scoreboards but with larger video screens. The video screen at Mariucci Arena, the hockey facility will be 11 feet, 6 inches tall and 14-9 wide; the screen at Williams Arena, the basketball facility, will be 11-7 tall and 13-8 wide. Both scoreboards will feature an LED ring above and below the main video board.
The previous scoreboard at Williams Arena already has been removed, and Mariucci Arena scoreboard will be taken down soon.
The university also will add a state-of-the-art control room in TCF Bank Stadium to run the videoboards in Mariucci Arena, TCF Bank Stadium and Williams Arena.
