PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
AJP designs audio systems that deliver high performance and intelligibility for every type and size of venue. In an industry that tends to fall back on typical designs from the same manufacturers with no real depth of understanding in terms of the building and what it really needs, AJP takes the opposite approach, taking the time to determine the unique needs of each facility and project, identifying the best equipment and the best integrators, and designing systems that maximize the space.
Mackey Arena Audio System Design – A Customized Approach
You can tell the university takes exquisite care of Mackey Arena. Built in 1968, it’s a beautiful space for basketball and events. Jack Covert, AJP’s Director of Audio and AV Design Engineering, said it best: “This sound system is a big deal. The building was a challenge, and at first glance it looked like there was no way to get a decent audio system in there. But we figured it out, and now Purdue has one of the best arena systems in the country.”
CVLAV was selected by Anthony James Partners and Purdue University to assist in executing AJP’s new arena sound system design that would not only match the intensity of the Purdue Boilermakers’ fans, but also deliver uncompromised and intelligible sound to all seats in the bowl. The challenge involved finding a way to accomplish this without adding extra weight to the catwalk. Challenge accepted and met!
Mackey Arena’s new sound system consists of:
- (6) Array Systems comprised of (2) Fulcrum CS121 Subwoofers and (10) Fulcrum FL283T Dual 8″ Subcardioid Arrays.
- (4) Court Fill Pairs comprised of (1) Fulcrum CS118 Subwoofer and (1) Fulcrum CCX1577 15” Subcardioid.
- (12) Stagemaker SR10.
- (6) Applied Truss and Electronics 12″x12″x8′ Truss.
- (7) Powersoft X8 8-Channel Benchmark Amplifiers.
- (2) QSC TSC-70-G3 7″ Touch Panel.

LED SCOREBOARD, CORNER BOARDS, RIBBON BOARDS AND HOISTS
The main center hung displays and corner displays are capable of showing either one large image or images divided into multiple zones to show any combination of live video, instant replays, game statistics and information, graphics and animations, and sponsorship messages. The ring and ribbon displays provide complementary statistics and information to the main displays, while also providing opportunity for highlighting sponsors during events.
ROSS-ADE STADIUM
AJP also worked with Purdue on design, procurement and construction oversight for Ross-Ade Stadium technology upgrades, including a customized scoreboard design, “monster” LED ribbon and a cutting-edge stadium sound system. For more information on the project, click here.

ANTHONY JAMES PARTNERS DELIVERING CUTTING-EDGE AUDIO SYSTEMS FOR STADIUMS AND ARENAS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA
Award-winning Sound System Design for FedEx Field, Crypto.com Arena, Prudential Center, Clemson Memorial Stadium, MSU Spartan Stadium, Rutgers SHI Stadium, Toronto Blue Jays Rogers Centre, U of Richmond’s Robbins Stadium, and many more…
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, June 2023 – Anthony James Partners (AJP), industry-leading Owner’s Representative and Technology / AV Consultant is hitting its stride in the audio industry, becoming the driving force behind tens of millions of dollars in new audio system design and upgrades for top venues across North America.
AJP designs audio systems that deliver high performance and intelligibility for every type and size of venue. Most recently, AJP was contracted for the design, procurement, and construction administration of a state-of-the-art distributed loudspeaker system for the Washington Commander’s FedEx Field, with the bowl audio phase closing out in time for the 2023 NFL season. New Jersey’s high-profile Prudential Center is set to become one of the first fully immersive audio buildings in 2023, and last year, the Toronto Blue Jays received a state-of-the-art QX series PA system design that has brought fan experience to a new level.
On the collegiate level, Clemson’s Memorial Stadium is now sporting arguably the best sounding NCAA stadium system in Division 1. AJP is also behind Rutgers SHI Stadium’s new ground-shaking, advanced networked audio system, Michigan State University Spartan Stadium’s impressive new distributed audio system supported by all-new fiber optic cabling infrastructure, and the University of Richmond’s new sound system that has brought Robbins Stadium to life.
According to Michael Rowe, AJP’s Chief Executive Officer, “We’re hitting our stride in the audio industry. AJP is embracing new technology and guiding our clients to make sound system selection based on performance, rather than choice of brand or manufacturer. As early adopters of systems from newer and smaller makers, we’ve had incredible success working with manufacturers like Adamson System Engineering and Fulcrum Acoustic, both of which are behind today’s most prominent touring sound systems.”
“Trying to apply the same design in every stadium or arena is not what these facilities need,” added Jack Covert, AJP’s Director of Audio and AV Design Engineering, who noted that when approaching new projects, the industry tends to fall back on typical designs from the same manufacturers with no real depth of understanding in terms of the building and what it really needs. “AJP’s approach is really looking at the buildings for what they are, identifying the best equipment and the best integrators, and designing systems that maximize the space.” In addition to designing phenomenal systems, AJP negotiates excellent long-term service and warranty programming, and in the end saves customers millions of dollars.
Exciting projects closing out this fall include cutting-edge arena bowl audio systems for Crypto.com Arena, Purdue University’s Mackey Arena, and Michigan State University’s Breslin Center. Projects currently underway include Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium, Rogers Arena in Vancouver, New Jersey’s Loews Jersey Theatre, Peoria Civic Center, INTRUST Bank Arena, and more. Like with every large-scale technology project AJP is involved with, the approach will remain the same; a focus on time, attention, and a personal approach to advance to the next level.
