Rose Bowl Stadium

Toronto Blue Jays, Rogers Centre

Scope of Work: Feasibility Study (5-Year Broadcast Technology Plan), Design, Procurement, Construction Administration.
Jenny Craig Pavilion: LED Display Systems (Center Hung, Ribbon Board), Hoist, Production Controls, Scoring System and Software, Audio System, Lighting, Control Room.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

AJP was proud to support the University of San Diego (USD) in a multi-million dollar investment to enhance the Jenny Craig Pavilion (JCP), the on-campus home of the Toreros’ women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball programs. The venue also hosts high-profile campus and regional events. Completed in May, the project introduced cutting-edge upgrades, including a new center-hung videoboard, end-wall ribbon boards, production room enhancements, and a complete overhaul of the venue’s sports lighting and audio systems.

LED DISPLAYS

At the heart of the upgrades is a striking four-sided center-hung videoboard featuring four main video displays and two underbelly screens. The sideline displays measure 13 feet high by 23 feet wide, while the baseline displays stand at 10 feet high by 16.5 feet wide. Two additional underbelly displays, each 2.5 feet high by 18 feet wide, provide optimal viewing for fans seated closer to the action. All six displays feature 3.9-millimeter pixel spacing, ensuring crisp, high-definition imagery throughout the arena.

Equipped with variable content zoning, the system can showcase a single, expansive image or multiple zones of content, including live video, instant replays, real-time statistics, animations, and sponsorship messaging. Steel structure was added to support the center-hung.

For additional dynamic content and engagement, two ribbon displays mounted along the seating fascia bring supplemental graphics and animations. Each measures 2.5 feet high by 67 feet wide with a 10-millimeter pixel pitch.

The comprehensive system design includes a hoist mechanism, production controls, scoring system, and software. Daktronics was selected as the LED vendor, with all displays integrated into the existing end-wall video system via Daktronics Show Control for a fully immersive experience.

AUDIO SYSTEM

Complementing the video upgrades, AJP designed a new sound system to enhance clarity and power at Jenny Craig Pavilion. The system delivers superior speech intelligibility above crowd noise while providing full-range audio performance for game-day music and hype content.

The installation features Fulcrum Acoustics DX and CS series loudspeakers and subwoofers, powered by cutting-edge Powersoft Unica Series amplifiers. A new Q-SYS DSP and Yamaha DM Series digital console complete the system, ensuring optimal performance and seamless integration.

CONTROL ROOM & SPORTS LIGHTING UPGRADES

AJP was first engaged in 2021 to develop a feasibility study for USC, outlining a five-year broadcast technology plan. Following that, AJP supported control room upgrades in 2022.

As part of the JCP renovation, the venue also received a state-of-the-art in-bowl sports and entertainment lighting system, further enhancing the fan experience and event capabilities.
